- W1549156949 abstract "This chapter discusses homotopic and heterotopic transplantation in the chick/quail (C/Q) model to study the development of the central nervous system (CNS). Homotopic grafts approach was used to fate map the early neural tube and to study the origin of neuronal cell groups and their migratory pathways. Heterotopic transplants approach was aimed at studying cellular interactions. The discovery of the homeobox-containing genes, and other regulatory genes of vertebrates, emphasizing the metameric (neuromeric) organization of the CNS, has been essential for both types of studies. In addition, several antibodies recognizing quail or chick cells have been produced. These species-specific markers facilitate the analysis of chimeric embryos, allowing to combine the C/Q marker with other molecular markers. The C/Q paradigm has revealed itself to be complementary to molecular biology approaches that are mainly used at present. It allows investigating the interaction between areas expressing the different sets of molecular markers, and thus correlates these expressions with the ulterior cytodifferentiation of various brain areas." @default.
