- W1550188312 abstract "The study of gene expression is fundamental to research in development, metabolic regulation, and human disease. Genetics has made great use of a variety of molecular techniques to measure the expression of genes relevant to development. Traditional methods include DNA excess solution hybridization, riboprobe hybridization, and Northern analysis to ascertain the steady state levels of specific RNA molecules, products of genes of interest. Although each of the technologies has specific advantages, all the traditional approaches are labor intensive and designed to explore in great detail a rather limited number of RNAs. The pace or technological advancement in the analysis of gene expression has been unparalleled, affording a rich set of tools with which development research can be accelerated. The Human Genome Project and efforts to identify unique fragments of gene expressed sequence have resulted in an impressive expansion in the amount and quality or molecular probes amenable to aid research in the study of development specifically, and human disease in general, cDNA spotting and DNA oligonucleotide arraying offer powerful, high-throughput capabilities for gene profiling. Differential display, serial analysis of gene expression (SAGE), and subtractive cloning technologies offer alternative approaches." @default.
