- W1551270504 abstract "The use of specific antisera has allowed the localization of the placental proteic hormones, human chorionic somatomammotropin (HCS) and gonadotropin (HCG), by the immunohistoenzymologic techniques with the use of peroxidase. With this method HCS and HCG have been localized from 6 weeks' gestation to term in the syncytial villi of human placenta. This latter hormone has also been detected in some cells of amniotic epithelium, so-called “alpha cells,” but not in Langhans' cytotrophoblast. Therefore, it seems that Langhans' cells are not involved in the synthesis or transport of these two hormones at any term of gestation. A possible mechanism of the crossing over of HCG through the maternal-fetal unit suggested by the results is discussed in this paper." @default.
