Because some patients have repeated recurrences, with multiple skip lesions and extensive involvement of the small intestine, physicians generally are pessimistic concerning long-term results of treatment of the disease.There are uncertainties about the effectiveness of medical treatment, little having been published on this form of treatment, and there is disagreement about the preferred surgical treatment of the disease.
