- W1558259290 abstract "In a previous study a thermodynamic methodology was established to estimate conveniently the energy of the metal-sulfide bond, ED(M-S), for a series of transition metals sulfides. This parameter was related with the natural logarithm of the HDS activity (ln(HDS)), resulting in a linear correlation factor of 0.63. However, it was found that there are some cases having notorious deviations from this correlation, and therefore it was considered as an explanation the conjecture of a “transient active phase”, where the observed differences are due to the fact that true active phases responsible from the HDS catalysis may be substantially different from known and reported phases in literature for bulk metal sulfides. In other words, it is possible that in some of the sulphides, the HDS catalysis is the result of some transient active phases, and the ED(M-S) of this transient phase must be used to make the correlation. This study proposes a set of procedures that make up a methodology to establish the transient active phase operating in catalytic systems used for the HDS process. We propose a list of transient phases associated with each of the metal-sulfur systems that were considered in this study. The new phases substantially improved the correlation of ln(HDS) with the ED(MS), presenting a correlation factor of 0.82." @default.
