- W1558982106 abstract "Overweight in adolescents is not just an aesthetic problem, this condition not only as produce various systemic diseases, depression and low self-esteem but can also lead to impaired growth and craniofacial development. This research was intended to compare the timing of skeletal maturation stages in 10-15 year old students with overweight and with adequate nutrition, from two educational institutions in the district of San Juan de Lurigancho in Lima Peru. The data were taken in December 2010 in 204 10-15 year old schoolchildren divided into two groups, 120 with normal nutritional status and 84 are overweight, then 6 sub groups were formed for each age group and sex. Hand and wrist carpal radiographs were taken and were analyzed by the method of Fishman by a specialist. The results showed that there is a slight early onset of skeletal maturation stages of male school children with overweight, while in overweight girls there was a clear early development in skeletal maturity 1 year ahead from the girls with adequate nutrition. We conclude that overweight affects the timing of skeletal maturation stages in 10-15 year old students, mainly female." @default.
