• W1559417715 abstract "A method of determining the scattered fractions of 6-, 10-, 18- and 25- MeV photon dose using ion chambers is presented. A cylindrical water phantom (radius 12.81 cm) was placed at the isocenter and all measurements were made at 200 cm from the center of the phantom at angles ranging from 0{degrees} through 160{degrees} from the central beam axis. The ionization current measured at each angle is then reported as a fraction of the ionization current seen at the center of the phantom. The results of these measurements will then be compared to Monte Carlo calculations which are used to determine shielding requirements in radiotherapy operations. Measurements of neutrons were measured at the same positions for 18- and 25-MeV beams utilizing thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs) placed in a 12.7-cm polyethylene moderating sphere. No attempts were made at this time to determine the energies of the scattered photons or neutrons although Monte Carlo calculations will be made to predict the scattered spectra." @default.
