• W1559699601 abstract "La presente disertacion de doctorado tiene como objetivo el estudio de dos casas unifamiliares aisladas – la Casa de Ofir, del arquitecto Fernando Tavora (1923?2005), y la Casa de Vila Vicosa, de los arquitectos Nuno Portas (1934) y Nuno Teotonio Pereira (1922) ?, proyectadas y construidas en el periodo de transicion de la decada de cincuenta para la decada de sesenta del siglo XX, en Portugal. Las dos casas objeto de estudio se destacan en el contexto temporal definido por constituyeren proyectos seminales de autores de referencia en este periodo de profundas transformaciones de la arquitectura portuguesa. Sus autores sobresalen como personajes principales en este periodo de la historia de la arquitectura portuguesa, contribuyendo decisivamente para la busqueda y establecimiento de una nueva arquitectura moderna, a traves de sus escritos, de sus proyectos y obras y, posteriormente, de su trabajo en contexto academico. Las casas se evidencian por su condicion de obras primogenitas de una nueva via que entonces se inicia, y que abre el camino para una arquitectura moderna renovada y para la arquitectura contemporanea portuguesa. Constituyen un pivote entre una arquitectura de referencia al regionalismo y nacionalismo de imposicion del regimen de Salazar, y una arquitectura moderna racionalista internacional, recientemente implantada en Portugal, y una arquitectura moderna renovada, que procura otro abordaje metodologico, basado en la integracion de distintos valores culturales, en la contextualizacion en el lugar, centrada en el hombre y en su especificidad cultural, social y psicologica. El estudio encuadra las obras en el contexto historico y en la produccion de sus autores, presentando una lectura y analisis de sus caracteristicas arquitectonicas y estableciendo un conjunto de ideassintesis que fijan las principales opciones conceptuales de sus proyectos. Se reconocen y caracterizan los principales temas de investigacion que fundamentan sus procesos de concepcion, y se identifican las principales influencias que los determinan y condicionan, cruzandose la lectura directa de los proyectos y obras con textos de sus autores y textos criticos de autores de referencia de la historiografia de la arquitectura portuguesa. La investigacion evalua la importancia de las dos casas en estudio, como experimento y como matriz, en el proceso de revision critica de la arquitectura moderna portuguesa, en la transicion de la decada de cincuenta para la decada de sesenta. Como experimento, comprendiendo la casa y su proyecto como lugar privilegiado para la experimentacion arquitectonica; como matriz, comprendiendo la casa y su proyecto como fuente, origen, entidad principal generadora de otras, lugar donde se generan otras realizaciones arquitectonicas. Con este enfoque, el estudio evalua la Casa de Ofir y la Casa de Vila Vicosa como casas experimentales en el contexto de la produccion de sus autores y en el contexto de la arquitectura portuguesa del periodo, buscando establecer los diferentes niveles de experimentacion concretizados en su concepcion y construccion; como obras?matriz en el contexto de la produccion de sus autores, procurando evaluar la continuidad de las metodologias y soluciones de proyecto planteadas con la casa, en la obra continuada de sus autores. Se evalua tambien la importancia de las dos casas como matriz para la arquitectura portuguesa, apuntandolas como obras?manifiesto de una nueva condicion de la arquitectura moderna portuguesa y obras precursoras de la arquitectura contemporanea portuguesa. The aim of the present doctoral dissertation is to study two single?family houses – the House at Ofir, by Fernando Tavora (1923?2005), and the House at Vila Vicosa, by Nuno Portas (1934) and Nuno Teotonio Pereira (1922) ?, designed and built during the period of transition between de fifties and the sixties of the twentieth century, in Portugal. The two houses in study stand out in their historical context because they are seminal designs of referential authors of this period of profound change of Portuguese architecture. Their authors play major roles in this period of Portuguese history of architecture, contributing definitely for the search and establishing of a new modern architecture, through their writings, their designs and built work and, later on, their academic work. The two houses stand out for their condition of primordial works of a new way that is at that time beginning, and that opens up the path for a renewed modern architecture and for contemporary Portuguese architecture. They constitute the pivot between an architecture referred to regionalism and nationalism imposed by Salazar’s regime, and rationalist international modern architecture, recently implanted in Portugal, and a renewed modern architecture that seeks a different methodology, based on the integration of distinct cultural values, on place contextualization, centered in man and his cultural, social and psychological specificity. The investigation sets the two works in historical context and in the production of their authors, presenting a reading and analysis of their architectural characterization and establishing a set of ideassynthesis that establish the main conceptual options of their projects. The study recognises and characterizes the main themes of investigation that base their conceptual processes, and identifies the main influences that determine and condition them, cross?referencing the direct reading of the designs and buildings with texts written by their authors and critical texts of referential authors of Portuguese architecture historiography. The investigation evaluates the importance of the two houses in study, as experiment and matrix, in the process of critical revision of Portuguese modern architecture, in the transition between the fifties and the sixties of the twentieth century. As experiment, assuming the house and its project as a privileged place for architectural experimentation; as matrix, assuming the house and its project as origin, main entity that generates others, place where other architectural achievements generate and take form. With this approach, the study evaluates the House at Ofir and the House at Vila Vicosa as experimental houses in the context of their authors’ production and in the context of Portuguese architecture of the period, establishing the different levels of experimentation achieved in their conception and construction; as matrix?works in the context of their authors’ production, evaluating the continuity of methodology and design solutions established with the house, in their continued work. The thesis also evaluates the importance of the two houses as matrix for Portuguese architecture, establishing them as manifest?works of a new condition of Portuguese modern architecture, and as pioneer?works of contemporary Portuguese architecture." @default.
