- W1560809908 abstract "Abstract Experimental results for electroosmotic velocity, electroosmotic pressure difference, and streaming potential for isodielectric nonaqueous mixtures of acetonitrile (ACN), dimethylformamide (DMF), and ethyleneglycol (EG) across a Pyrex sintered disc (G 3 ) at different compositions and different voltages at 40°C are reported. The results have been interpreted in the light of thermodynamics of irreversible processes. the phenomenological relations have been found to have limited range of applicability and the Onsager's reciprocity relations have been found to be valid for these mixtures. The efficiencies of electrokinetic energy conversion for different mixtures at 100 V have been calculated. It has been found that the energy conversion efficiency is considerable lower for multicomponent solution than for the mixture of ACN and DMF and it may be attributed to the presence of strong interaction between the molecules of the different components and higher viscosity of EG. The maximum conversion efficiency took place at half the value of the electroosmotic pressure in each case. The time dependence of the entropy production for the electroosmotic process has been found to obey Prigogine and Glansdorff's theory of minimum entropy production. The relaxation time, τ, for all the mixtures has been estimated. The relaxation time has been found to be independent of the composition at lower content of EG." @default.
