The concentration of total phenolic compound of hot water and 70% EtOH extracts of K. septemlobus leaf showed 104 mg/l and 125 mg/l respectively. In the result of DPPH(1,1- diphenyl-2-picryl -hydrazyl) scavenging radical activity, 70% EtOH extracts of K. septemlobus leaf showed 93.1% and it was similar to BHA(butylated hydroxyanisole) effect at 1,000ppm concentration. Xanthine oxidase inhibition of hot water extracts and 70% EtOH extracts of K. septemlobus leaf were 46.6% and 60.4% at 1,000ppm , respectively. In these results, K. septemlobus leaf has a great potential as a cosmeceutical ingredient with a natural anti-oxidant source. Key words - Kalopanax septemlobus , Anti-oxidative activity, Cosmeceutical * 교신저자(E-mail):goldtree@forest.go.kr 서 언 우리 인체는 외부로부터 끊임없는 자극을 받아 활성산소(reactive oxygen species, ROS) 와 유리기(free radicals)를 생성함으로써, 산화물질(pro-oxidants)을 축적한다. 또한 이에 대한 방어기전으로 산화 억제물질 (anti- oxidants)을 형성하여 산화물과 균형을 이루어 건강을 유지하게 한다. 그러나 현대인들은 증가하는 스트레스, 환경오염, 약물, 유전적 요인 등에 의해 생성되는 산화물에 노출되어 있어 산화와 항산화물질간의 평형 상태를 유지하지 못하고 있다(Hwang et al., 2006). 이러한 활성산소는 암이나 동맥경화증, 혹은 심혈관계 질환과 관련이 있으며 생물분자를 공격하여 세포나 조직에 피해를 주고 이로 인해 노화에도 관여한다(Maxwell, 1995).천연물에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 천연물로부터 기능성 물질을 탐색하기 위하여 많은 노력을 기울이고 있으며 , 수목의 목재, 잎 등의 추출성분 중 생리활성이 뛰어난 성분들을 이용해 기능성 물질로써의 활용방안도 활발히 연구되고 있다(Kong, 2004).산림자원에서 수목의 이용은 주로 줄기의 목질 부분을 중심으로 이루어져 왔지만 최근, 수목의 목질부 이외 부분에서 우수한 활성성분들이 검색됨에 따라 수목의 전부위에 대한 연구를 통해 다양한 산업적 이용 가능성이 발표되고 있다.음나무(Kalopanax septemlobus Koidz.)는 우리나라 전국에 자생하는 낙엽활엽 교목으로 수고 25m, 직경 1m" @default.
