- W1565267363 abstract "An autoradiographic study was carried out concerning the incorporation of 14C-adenine and 14C-leucine in stages of development of the sea urchins Paracentrotus lividus and Psammechinus microtuberculatus from early cleavage until bilateral larvae without arms. A description is given of the methods of incubation, stripping, embedding, and analysis which were adapted for the material in question. The incorporation of 14C-adenine became noticeable in the early blastula stage and the increase continued during development. By means of digestion with ribonuclease an evaluation could be made of the partition of the 14C-adenine between ribonucleic acid and deoxyribonucleic acid (cf. Fig. 1 c). At first the incorporation was stronger in the animal region than in the rest of the blastula. In the course of development the vegetal incorporation increases relative to the animal one, and after the mesenchyme blastula stage the labelling of the vegetal region dominates. This domination is particularly conspicuous in the gastrula stage. It was evident that the 14C-adenine was incorporated mainly into the nuclei in the early blastula stage. The pattern of incorporation of 14C-leucine was closely similar to that of 14C-adenine. In contrast to 14C-adenine, the 14C-leucine was mainly incorporated into the cytoplasm of the early blastula. Previous work pertaining to the metabolic background of the development is discussed in the light of the data presented in this study, the orientating character of which is emphasized." @default.
