Building up a virtual environment is useful because it gives to an agent an artificial environment that allows testing of its behavior, varying arbitrarily the parameters of this environment. In simulation that means that the information coming from the real world is replaced by others which are generated by a computer program in such a way that the consequences of the results of the process are not essentially modified. In a virtual environment, the senses of an agent are simulated by virtual senses, and stimuli stemming from them. The latter must produce the same behavior and responses in the agent as if they were coming from a real world. A virtual environment is made up of three parts, the world which is the physical environment of the robot, the robot itself, which as part of this world, follows the same mechanical laws, and virtual sensors which simulate its senses." @default.
