- W1566652945 abstract "The purpose of this chapter is to review the impact breakage of particles in double impact tests. Double impact testing is the dynamic compression of spheres between two rigid platens (i.e. the dynamic counterpart of the slow compression of spheres). This test is normally done by putting a sphere on a flat, rigid surface and then another weight with a flat, rigid bottom was dropped on the spherical specimen following a guiding system. A reliable way to study the process of impact breakage of particles can be made in well-controlled laboratory environments, and dynamic tests in laboratories in understanding the process of impact breakage are of fundamental importance in investigating breakage mechanisms. Fragmentation, the process of breaking brittle solids into smaller pieces, is caused by the propagation of multiple fractures and crushing at different scales. Such fractures can be induced by either quasi-static loading (either compression or tension) or wave interference under dynamic loading. A detailed understanding of the fragmentation process is paramount in many disciplines including geology, applied rock mechanics, and soil science." @default.
