- W1567307883 abstract "Many two-phase extraction procedures, in which a complex is formed by reaction between an n-valent metal, and a ligand derived from a weak acid, were explained by assuming that combination of metal and ligand occurs in an aqueous phase, but that uncharged species are free to partition into an organic phase. Using this model, equations were derived for a simple general case, which indicates that when there is little dissociation of the complex, three methods widely used for the determination of metai-ligand ratios in a monophase, the Harvey-Manning slope ratio method, the molar ratio method of Yoe and Jones, and Job's method of continuous variations, may be equally well applied to a two-phase system. Again for a strong complex it is shown that it is possible to find the position of the Job extremum and calculate the Harvey-Manning slope ratio from one series of continuous variation measurements, rather than carrying out Job and Harvey-Manning determinations separately.
