- W1567600778 abstract "Traduction : Elizabeth Kelly-Penot.Access to adult roles is becoming so uncertain that the very status of the adult seems called into question. This twofold assertion must be greatly tempered by the issue of access to adult roles before we treat the question of integration. The author makes a distinction between access to adult roles and social integration.« Youth » is defined both as an individual step within the life cycle, on some occasions, as a group that can band together and participate in - or even initiate - social movement. The model for access to adult roles is undergoing redefinition. We have gone from a model based on traditional, change-opposed identification with, and reproduction of, the parental role, to a model that I will call an experimentation model which leaves much more room for one’s own definition of oneself and one’s place within society.Whenever we are dealing with adolescents, supervision has an essential function. The adolescent is still under the control of major socializing agents like school and family, and he needs these references to structure his personality (if necessary, by setting himself in opposition to them). The young person, in contrast, demands his freedom while asking for support. His affective choices must remain beyond the intervention or control of educators, parents or others ; in these areas, he will not tolerate their guardianship. Youth is not a prolongation of adolescence. The unity of youth is less and less apparent. The futures of young people who pursue even short-term study leading to a degree or to professional training, and those who leave school earliest have little in common and are becoming more and more disparate." @default.
