RADKESearch for more papers by this authorAuthor, Article, and Disclosure Informationhttps://doi.org/10.7326/0003-4819-43-5-1048 SectionsAboutPDF ToolsAdd to favoritesDownload CitationsTrack CitationsPermissions ShareFacebookTwitterLinkedInRedditEmail ExcerptAmeboma (amebic granuloma) is a localized thickening of the intestinal wall about an ulceration caused by Endamoeba histolytica which results in a lesion capable of being mistaken for a neoplasm because of the associated narrowing of the intestinal lumen and presence of a palpable mass.In an attempt to clarify, if possible, this aspect of amebiasis, the literature has been reviewed and 78 reported cases of ameboma1-53have been selected for analysis and, in addition, 41 previously unreported cases of ameboma from my personal (5) and from the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) experience (36) have been studied.
