- W1569002087 abstract "The future of the management of recurrent laryngeal neuropathy (RLN) is likely to advance through four main themes: incremental improvements to existing techniques through the identification of a solvable problem; earlier and better diagnosis; novel surgical techniques; and improved follow-up and assessment of success. In the last few years progress has been made toward tackling one of the major problems associated with prosthetic laryngoplasty (PL), that of arytenoid abduction loss in the early postoperative period. A number of novel surgical techniques have been explored in the last few years for the treatment of RLN. These have focused on the use of functional electrical stimulation (FES) of laryngeal muscle. FES is a technique that may be applied for the treatment of lower motor neuron injury. The goal of laryngeal pacing is to produce FES of the posterior cricoarytenoid (PCA) muscle with the goal of restoring muscle mass and function." @default.
