- W1569208702 abstract "Publisher Summary Perchloric acid-soluble protein (L-PSP) is a 136-amino acid protein from rat liver that inhibits protein synthesis. It was later reported that 14-kDa translational inhibitor proteins, remarkably similar to L-PSP, are also present in human monocytes and mouse liver. The mRNA of the translational inhibitor p 14.5, the human homolog of L-PSP, becomes significantly upregulated with the induction of differentiation to macrophages. L-PSP has a mode of inhibition of translation similar to that of the berne-regulated eukaryotic initiation factor 2 or kinase (HRI). Rat liver perchloric acid-soluble protein is a unique ribonuclease, and this activity is responsible for the inhibition of translation. The inhibition appears to be because of an endoribonucleolytic activity because both authentic and recombinant L-PSP (1) directly affect mRNA template activity and (2) induce disaggregation of the reticulocyte polysomes into 80S ribosomes even in the presence of cycloheximide. It is now clear that the protein is a ribonuclease and that this activity is responsible for the inhibition of translation." @default.
