- W1569279107 abstract "The sandstones of the upper interval have a porosity of 22-34%, permeability of 500 md and more, and bitumen occupies 50-70% of the pore space. Those of the lower interval have porosity of 8-16%, permeability of 2-35 md, and bitumen occupies 20-40% of the pore space. Comparison of electrical logging data with drill core data showed that the productive sandstones of the Ashal’chin field can be divided into three parts. The upper is 71-89% saturated by bitumen and can generally be recognized on the electrical log. The middle part has lower resistivity at 65-120 ohm-m and is 54-65% bitumen saturated. The lower part has still lower resistivity at 65-30 ohm-m and is 54-34% bitumen saturated. There is no single bitumen-water contact in the field; this contact is found at several levels. It is recommended that the distribution of values of apparent resistivity (ρk) or specific resistivity (ρp) and the relative parameter ANGL, be used to distinguish bitumen-bearing reservoirs. AnGL = (Ifm-Icl)/Icl, where Ifm and Icl are intensity of gamma radiation of thermal neutron capture in the formation and in clay, respectively. Fig. 2 shows the distribution of values of apparent resistivity recorded with a standard potential probe B2.0A0.5M and of the relative parameter ANGL. Criteria for bitumen saturated reservoirs are ρk 80 ohm-m and ANGL 0.28. Comparison of threshold values of ρk for the Ashal’chin field with parameters for similar reservoirs of the Ufa stage in the Sarabikulov and Mordovsko-Karmal bitumen deposits shows a substantial difference in criteria for recognizing bitumen saturation: This value is considerably lower in the Ashal’chin field. Consequently, this criterion must be established independently for each deposit. Fig. 3 shows the relationship between specific resistivity (ρs), ANGL, and flow of water-free bitumen. Water-free bitumen was recovered from intervals of strata that have a specific resistivity ρs 190 ohm-m. It is characteristic that flow of water-free bitumen is obtained where bitumen occupies 75% or more of the pore space." @default.
