- W1569707026 abstract "Over 82% of the variance in fuel consumption between 234 vehicles tested on the road by the NRMA and RACV can be accounted for by a linear regression involving kerb mass, engine capacity and number of cylinders. A fuel consumption difference of 0.9 l/100 km has been found for the equivalent average vehicle tested by the two clubs. This is associated with a more rapid rise of fuel consumption for the nrma as vehicle mass increases and it is, therefore, related to inertia effects. The consumption penalty associated with automatic transmission is 0.7 l/100 km (under 7%) in comparison with manual transmission. The average post-adr 27a vehicle consumes 0.3 l/100 km (under 3%) more than its equivalent pre-adr 27a counterpart. When analysis is restricted to a sub-set of cars matched to the range of vehicles tested by the Australian department of transport at Waterloo, NSW, the difference in consumption associated with the introduction of adr 27a is more than doubled. This higher value is in agreement with their value of 6% obtained for the as 2077 highway cycle. The value of road fuel consumption data obtained from fleet surveys would be significantly improved if sufficient attention can be given to defining driving conditions. Where fleets operate in particularly specialized service these conditions can be defined, making this data most useful. (TRRL)" @default.
