- W1569796661 abstract "This chapter reviews several examples to demonstrate how the surface influence may affect the film morphology, or even give rise to new structures with potentially promising properties for the improvement or the development of new electronic and optolectronic devices. The first two examples are related to photovoltaics: systems that could improve the performance of organic solar cells either by increasing the light harvesting capabilities or by optimizing the donor—acceptor phase segregation morphology in bulk heterojunction solar cells. The third example is related to the use of solid surfaces to steer the growth of organic nanocrystals with a controlled size and shape. All these results demonstrate that atomistic studies on the growth of organic thin films under ultra-high vacuum (UHV) conditions can lead to the very accurate control over the film morphology that is needed in order to improve the efficiency of electronic and optoelectronic organic devices." @default.
