POSSIBIL1TIES OF PEST MANAGEMENT WITH THE USE OF SEXUALLY STERILE INSECTS SUMMARY In search of ecologically saf e, economically viable and socially acceptable methods of managing pest populations, scope of using sterile insect technique (SfT) is discussed in the present paper. The technigue, which is free from main drawbacks of pesticidal application, is applicable only to certain insects under certain situations. The. methods of inducing insect sterility - radiation and chemosterilants - and their bIological effects ar e reported. Successful examples of the SIT ar e included and some suggestions for broader application of the technigue are imcorporated." @default.
