- W1570221366 abstract "Abstract : This report discusses the design and evaluation of improvements to messdeck layouts and other physical components on the U.S. Navy carrier ship, U. S.S. Saratoga. These components were designed to minimize the increased negative impacts of three 'given' conditions that result from a substantial addition of crew and equipment to a fixed-space environment. The 'given' conditions are: (1) high density, (2) multi-use of spaces, and (3) nondiner circulation through messdeck areas. This research also considered possible applications of the improvements to other U.S. Navy carriers. The components were designed to improve the crew's perception of privacy, efficiency, comfort, and dining area image. Surveys of the crew after these improvements had been implemented indicated positive user response to the modifications." @default.
