- W1570293720 abstract "Dynamics of the E Geophysical Mon © 2012. American 10.1029/2012GM We present an overview of the current state of the RESONANCE project. It is planned as a space mission consisting of two pairs of satellites each staying in the same magnetic flux tube over a substantial part of orbit, referred to as magnetosynchronous orbit. Such an orbit and four-satellite constellation permit long simultaneous measurements of electromagnetic fields and particle fluxes at different locations in the same flux tube to study self-consistent wave-particle dynamics in the inner magnetosphere. This dynamics, in which resonance wave-particle interactions play a key role, includes wave generation and propagation, particle energization, pitch angle scattering, and precipitation. In particular, the RESONANCE mission should provide new insights into such critical issues of magnetospheric plasma physics as chorus generation, particle acceleration in auroral region and wave modes in action, mechanism(s) of relativistic electron precipitation bursts, the nature and detailed propagation properties of auroral kilometric radiation, the role of ion cyclotron waves in precipitation of ring current (RC) ions and radiation belt electrons, the connection between RC and the radiation belts, and others." @default.
