TITLE Direct restorations in the family health program in Teresina (PI) ABSTRACT Objectives: To design the dental restoring profile performed by oral health teams. Methods: A survey of the characteristics of the restoring procedures was carried out by the oral health team in charge of the Health Family Project in Teresina, Piaui. Data was collected by the dentists participating in the project. Results: A total of 2027 data on restoring procedures was collected, of which (75,33%) 1527, consisted of new restorations, 406 (20,03%) were substitutions, out of which 325 (16,03%) used the same restorative material and 81 (4%) used different restoring material, 94 (4,64%) followed other procedures. The most used restoring material was the amalgam and 1119 (55,20%) used it . 837 (41,29%) used composite resin and 71 (3,50%) used glass ionomer. The main reasons for these restorations were primary caries with 1423 (70,20%) of the procedures, followed by 242 (11,94%) restoration failure, 226 (11,15%) recurrent caries , 57 (2,81%) represented cervical injuries, 43 (2,12%) of color alteration, 41 (2,02%), tooth failure, 12 (0,59%) of hipoplasya and 2 (0,10%) for other reasons. The restoration substitutions using the same type of restorative material were the main reason for restoration failures and substitutions for other type of material were the main reasons for caries rescindence. On the other hand, the new restorations were done due to carie lesions. There was a statically significant difference between the tooth lesioned during the procedure and its restoring material, dental surface and its restoring material and procedure and its restoring material. Conclusion: According to the methodology used and result analysis it was concluded that amalgam is the most used material for restorations. The majority of these procedures are related to new restorations and tooth decay is the main cause for them. Indexing terms: dental restorative material; dental amalgam; composite resins." @default.
