- W1570378247 abstract "ABSTRACT The name Inglefield Uplift is herein formally proposed to describe the source of Lower Devonian clastic sediments of southern Ellesmere Island. The uplift, which replaces the formerly used term Bache Peninsula Arch, is a north trending tectonic element consisting of lower Paleozoic strata and Precambrian crystalline rocks of the Canadian Shield on eastern Ellesmere Island. The uplift is inferred from studies of paleocurrent, mineralogy, facies, unconformity and basement trends. This uplift was the source of the terrestrial clastics of the Lower Devonian Vendom Fiord Formation. In Middle and Late Devonian time, the uplift ceased to be a separate entity and formed the western part of a large craton consisting of the Greenland and Ellesmere shields. A generally quiescent period in the Lochkovian to late Pragian ended with an episode of uplift in the late Pragian to middle Emsian, which produced the sediments of the Vendom Fiord Formation. Another quiescent period in the middle to late Emsian marked the cessation of tectonic activity in the uplift. LE SOULEVEMENT INGLEFIELD: UNE COMPOSANTE TECTONIQUE DEVONIENNE, ILE ELLESMERE, ARCTIQUE CANADIEN RESUME Le nom soulevement Inglefield est ici propose formellement pour la source des sediments clastiques du Devonien inferieur de l'ile Ellesmere meridionale. Le soulevement, qui remplace le terme arche peninsule Bache utilise dans le passe, est une composante tectonique orientee en direction nord et composee de strates Paleozoique inferieur et de roches crystallines Precambriennes du bouclier canadien dans l'est de l'ile Ellesmere. La presence du soulevement est deduite des etudes sur les directions generales des paleocourants, de la mineralogie, des facies, des discordances et du socle. Ce soulevement fut la source des sediments detritiques continentaux qui composent la formation fiord Vendom du Devonien inferieur. Durant les temps Devonien moyen et tardif, le soulevement cessa d'etre une entite distincte et forma la partie ouest d'un vaste craton compose des boucliers Groenland et Ellesmere. Une periode de repos, du Lochkovien au Pragien tardif, se termina par un episode de soulevement, du Pragien tardif au Emsien moyen, qui engendra les sediments de la formation fiord Vendom. Une autre periode de repos, du Emsien moyen au Emsien tardif, marqua la fin de l'activite tectonique dans le soulevement. Traduit par le bulletin" @default.
