The chapter begins with the discussion on preparation of anilines by aryl amination. A section on the preparation of anilides through aryl amidation is then followed by a section overviewing the use of copper-mediated arylation of nitrogen heterocycles in total synthesis. The chapter also focused on the synthesis of enamides, a difficult functional group to assemble that is greatly simplified by the use of copper-mediated cross-coupling procedures. A section on ynamidation follows and nicely illustrates another effective procedure for the synthesis of ynamides. The chapter concludes with intramolecular amination and amidation reactions to assemble small- and medium-sized rings, and with macrocyclization strategies for the formation of macrocyclic lactams." @default.
