- W1574155364 abstract "Surficial sediment samples from nine stations in the Kotka area, Finland, and from ten stations in the Neva Bay, near the city of St. Petersburg, Russia, were analysed for EOX and AOX. In this study levels of total EOX (1.4–60 μg/g dw) and AOX (120–620 μg/g dw) in the Kotka area and EOX (0.1–1.7 μg/g dw) in the Neva Bay were determined. Three open sea stations in the Gulf of Finland (1.7–3.9 μg/g dw) were analysed for EOX. SEC-HPLC fractioned EOX concentrations of seven selected stations were also determined. The results show the total MW and EOX-MW distributions are similar in all samples tested. The high levels of AOX and EOX clearly indicated pulp industry derived organochlorine contamination in the Kotka area. EOX concentrations in the Neva Bay are at background level, which indicated a low organochlorine load or no accumulation in the sediments in that particular area." @default.
