• W1575664848 abstract "A method of cleaning lubricating oil on line wasinvestigated using a fine bypass particulate filter followedby an infra red heater. Two bypass filter sizes of 6 and 1micron were investigated, both filter sizes were effectivebut the one micron filter had the greatest benefit. Thiswas tested on two nominally identical EURO 1 emissionscompliance refuse trucks, fitted with Perkins Phazer210Ti 6 litre turbocharged intercooled engines and codedas RT320 and RT321. These vehicles had emissionscharacteristics that were significantly different, in spite oftheir similar age and total mileage. RT321 showed anapparent heavier black smoke than RT320. Comparisonwas made with the emissions on the same vehicles andengines with and without the on-line bypass oil recycler.Engine exhaust emissions were measured about every400 miles. Both vehicles started the test with an oil drainand fresh lubricating oil. The two refuse trucks weretested in a different sequence, the RT320 without therecycler fitted and then fitted later and the RT321 withthe recycler fitted and then removed later in the test andboth without any oil change. The RT320 was also theone with the finer bypass filter. The test mileage wasnearly 8,000 miles both trucks. The air/fuel ratio wasworked out by the exhaust gas analysis. The correlationbetween air/fuel ratio and emission parameters wasdetermined and appropriate corrections were made inthe case of that the air/fuel ratio had an effect onemissions. The results showed that the on line oilrecycler cleaning system can reduce the rate of increaseof the NOx with oil age. There appeared little influence ofthe oil recycler on carbon monoxide and hydrocarbonemissions. The rate of increase in particulate emissionswas reduced by 50% for RT320 and an immediatedecrease in particulate emissions was seen on RT320test after fitting the recycler. The black smoke wasreduced by 30% for RT320 in terms average value andan immediate decrease in smoke after fitting the recycleron RT320 test and an immediate increase in smoke afterthe removal of the recycler on RT321 test were shown." @default.
