- W1577498458 abstract "This study was conducted in the District (administrative unit) of Chittagong, Bangladesh for the period of 1978~2008 using daily minimum and maximum temperature, daily precipitation, rice and wheat production, land area for rice and wheat production and amount of fertilizer utilization data to analyze the climatic trends and its effect on agricultural production. A total 9 indices for temperature and 6 indices for precipitation were analyzed by using software “RClimDex” and Microsoft Excel. A statistical software MiniTab was used to correlation and regression analysis. The analysis showed that the trend of summer days and tropical nights were increased with time but numbers of tropical nights were increased more than the numbers of summer days. Percentage of cool days and cool nights were decreased but percentage of warm days was increased with higher slope of 0.58. The daily maximum temperature was increased over the period of 31 years. Trend of annual average maximum and minimum temperature also showed an increasing trend over the study period. Consecutive dry days were increased whereas consecutive wet days were decreased over the whole study period. Annual total wet-day precipitation showed a decreasing trend that supports the findings of consecutive dry days. On the contrary, very heavy rainy days showed an increasing trend that was related to the flood of 1988, 2003 and 2005 in Chittagong district. Farmers tried to giving emphasis on rice cultivation than wheat that was indicated by the trend of rice production and land area used by both crops rice and wheat. Amount of fertilizer used for agriculture was surging condition that influenced on rice production but less influence on wheat production. Temperature (average annual maximum) had positive control on rice production but negative impact on wheat production. From statistical analysis, it is clear that there was a significant positive relation between rice yield with average annual maximum temperature whereas for wheat yield with land area." @default.
