• W157754805 abstract "Mergers and acquisitions are a very often seen phenomenon in the economy nowadays. This same trend also occurs to the logistic functions of industry, trade companies or thirdparty logistics providers. A 2005 study of Bain & Company shows that about 70 % of all big merger deals are failing. It seems certain, yet often unaddressed concerns are inevitably connected to every merger process. There are many published scientific and practice oriented papers on mergers with lots of post merger integration phase appear to be inevitable and unavoidable. Many of the entities who have suffered through these mergers etc. have come to realize that they have not done proper due diligence, before making the marriage. They have not taken a complete look at where they are aligned and misaligned. Even more important they have failed to do a culture audit. As failures of merger processes are not published adequately there unfortunately is little empirical data available. Thus this paper is based on an extended experience with a post merger integration process of logistics function of three trade companies. It is based on scientifically accepted general findings like types of mergers, reasons for merger initiatives, phases and the velocity of the merger process. Out of these facts which are common sense, there are developed recommendations for mergers processes in logistic functions to be activated. The recommendations included in this article are designed to provide an orientation to the essential procedures in a logistic merger process and will be an helpful support for companies with similar preconditions. The lessons learned from this case may also inspire further empirical research on logistic mergers." @default.
