- W157860008 abstract "AbstractDiabetes mellitus is the phenotypic expression of a disorder resulting from various environmental factors interacting with a genetic component. It is an heterogeneous metabolic syndrome consisting of a dysregulation of glucose homeostasis, with additional abnormalities in lipid and protein metabolism. This disorder induces both acute and long-term complications, particularly cardiovascular, with an increased rate of morbidity and mortality as compared to the general population. The incidence and associated complications of the disease are in continuous progression; indeed, by the year 2010, the total number of people with diabetes is projected to reach 221 million, as compared to an estimated 124 million in 1997 (Amos et al. 1997). The prevalence of diabetes in adults worldwide was estimated to be 4.0% in 1995 and to rise to 5.4% by the year 2025 (King et al. 1998).KeywordsInsulin SecretionAdenosine ReceptorPurinergic ReceptorImprove Glucose ToleranceRINm5F CellThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
