- W1578613039 abstract "Publisher Summary Enantioanalysis became increasingly important for pharmaceutical and clinical analysis because of the difference among the behavior of the enantiomers of the same chiral substance in the body. The enantioselective, potentiometric membrane electrodes (EPMEs) are a good alternative for chromatographic methods in enantioanalysis. EPMEs are proposed for the potentiometric detection of the enantiomers. The selection of chiral selector and matrix for the design of these electrodes are the keys for a successful enantioanalysis using EPMEs. A validation of these electrodes will require a reliable design, because only a reliable design will assure the reliability of the analytical information obtained using these electrodes. So far, the most reliable design was proved to be the one based on carbon paste. The mechanism of potential development is similar with the complexation–de-complexation. The slope of the electrodes is directly dependent on the stability constant of the complex formed at membrane–solution interface. Accordingly, the selection of the best chiral selector may be done using the values of these stability constants." @default.
