- W1578941570 abstract "The s o l u b i l i t y of v iny l chlor ide monomer (VCM) in water was determined fo r temperatures ranging from 0 to 75° C and f o r pressures from 1 to 6 atmospheres. VCM may be considered f a i r l y soluble in water. The VCM s o l u b i l i t y in potassium laurate solut ions a t 50° C was determined f o r the range 0.1 to 15.0 g/1 of the soap and fo r pressures from 1 to 6 atmospheres. I t was noted that some so lub i l i za t i on of VCM occured even below the c r i t i c a l micel le concentration (one) of the soap and that the VCM s o l u b i l i t y appeared to approach a l i m i t i n g maximum s o l u b i l i t y at high soap concentrat ions. I t was observed that the so lub i l i za t i on e f fec t was essen t ia l l y independent of pressure. The d i f f u s i v i t y of VCM in water a t temperatures from 0 to 75° C was also determined. In add i t i on , VCM d i f f u s i v i t y in potassium laurate solut ions was measured in the soap concentration range of 0.1 to 15.0 g/1 and at atmospheric pressure. With increasing soap concentration there was a large decrease in VCM d i f f u s i v i t y when compared to that in pure water. The one of potassium laurate was determined i n a number of ways, the most s i g n i f i c a n t of which were by means of v i scos i t y and density measurements. The mice l le number average molecular weight (M^) was also determined to be about 23,100 and the corresponding weight average molecular weight (M~w) was about 33,600, y i e l d i ng a po lyd ispers i ty o f 1.45.
