- W1580969674 abstract "The cell surface receptor Notch is crucial for animal development, and elaborate mechanisms have evolved to control expression of the Notch gene. As [Lowe][1] describes in his Perspective, new work ([ Okajima et al .][2]) now reveals that Notch can be regulated through control of its expression at the cell surface. It turns out that egress of Notch from its site of synthesis in the endoplasmic reticulum and its subsequent transit to the cell surface via the secretory pathway is modulated by the chaperone-like activity of a fucosyltransferase enzyme.
