- W1582371935 abstract "The objective of the present study was to assess the evolution of nutritional status of children with central nervous system malignancies during radiotherapy. We evaluated 50 children, from July 2000 to August 2007, aged 2-10 years, of both sexes. Nutritional assessment was performed by history, the monitoring was performed weekly (data collected at the beginning and end of treatment) and used z scores of weight for age (WAZ), height for age (HAZ) body mass index for age (BMI/ A) according to the criteria of the World Health Organization (WHO) from 2006-2007. For comparisons of anthropometric measurements at the beginning and end of radiotherapy, we used the paired Student t test. The level of significance was 0.05 and the statistical program used was SPSS, version 17.0. The anthropometric measurements performed confirmed the presence of eutrophia in most of the children (74% initially and 72% at the end of treatment), with no significant difference between time of assessment. There was a statistically significant difference (p = 0.00) in comparison to the z-score height in two periods. Children who had some type of symptom during treatment, such as anorexia (40%), nausea (36%), vomiting (34%), resulting from the irradiated anatomical region, showed no significant changes in body weight (p = 0.66). We conclude that Radiotherapy outpatients had adequate nutritional status, which was maintained during treatment." @default.
