- W1583014989 abstract "Biological fuel cells (BFCs) are energy-producing devices, akin to conventional fuel cells, except that they employ biological materials as catalysts on one or both of the electrodes. All BFCs and biological sensors–no matter the type of device–have one important aspect in common: the requirement for effective electronic communication between an electrode current collector and an enzyme. Direct electron transfer (DET) insinuates that electron transfer occurs between enzyme and electrode without the use of any third-party mediators. DET is fundamentally the simplest method of enzyme association and can be achieved by one of the three methods: (a) physical adsorption, (b) electrostatic interaction, and (c) covalent bonding. Blue copper oxidase (BCO) is a classification of oxidoreductase enzymes that contain at least one blue or T1 copper and a T2/T3 trinuclear cluster. This chapter presents a study that provides fundamental accounts of enzyme behavior, albeit following chemical treatment, and at 77 K." @default.
