- W1584946304 abstract "In the last trimester of pregnancy the plasma growth hormone (HGH) concentration following hypoglycemia is reduced and the plasma insulin response to glucose is increased. The purpose of this study was to determine if such alterations of HGH and insulin secretion occur in pregnancy after other stimuli. Twenty-nine studies with arginine infusion were conducted throughout pregnancy and post partum. HGH response to arginine was similar to controls during the first two trimesters of pregnancy but blunted thereafter. Plasma insulin responses were small in early pregnancy but returned toward normal near term. Basal plasma glucose concentrations were significantly less than in comparable control studies. A rise in plasma chorionic somatomammotropin (HCS) concentration was seen throughout pregnancy, but no change was noted during arginine infusion. If HCS affects pituitary responsiveness, it may be related to its plasma concentration. Furthermore, insulin response to arginine may be related to the plasma glucose concentration." @default.
