- W1587455342 abstract "Multilevel methodologists argue that in a hierarchical structure the classical OLS estimates are not reliable for hypothesis testing. Using data from the manufacturing sector of Iran, this paper attempts to examine empirically the existence of hierarchical structure in data used. The advantages of employing multilevel modelling in human capital analysis of earnings differentials were also examined. The results of multilevel analysis show that (i) data used are dominated by a hierarchical structure and ignoring the effects of this structure on the estimates misleads us in testing of hypotheses, and (ii) in the manufacturing sector the amount of education and experience is significantly and systematically associated with the earnings of employees. The use of multilevel models also provides evidence for the pecuniary externality effects of human capital and strengthens the explanatory power of human capital variables." @default.
