- W1589065720 abstract "Rising sea levels and wasteful desertification are considered one of the most significant consequences of climate change, which may affect the everyday lives of many citizens of our planet in the near future. Despite alarming reports, rising sea levels to this date have not created major social problems. Economic losses and displacements associated with natural disasters are definitely more visible global problems. The subject of this article is the dilemmas for public international law and intergovernmental cooperation associated with rising sea levels. The initial deliberations offer a brief analysis of the potential scale of rising sea levels in the future. The next part highlights the existing gaps in public international law which obstruct the response to the potential threats. The problem most particularly discussed is the controversy over responsibility for irreversible climate change. The article devotes much attention to the impact of climatic deterritorialization of the country on the continuity of state and related international legal institutions (e.g. citizenship). I present the most significant points of view concerning measures for the legal protection of persons forced to leave their country as a result of climate change. The basis of the author`s considerations are four particular areas of public international law: international human rights law, international humanitarian law, international refugee law and the international law of statelessness." @default.
