- W1589965348 abstract "Abstract Surface modification of membranes has become a key issue in membrane science and technology. The major aim of surface modification is improving the performance of the membranes with a view to altering a wide range of characteristics of the surface, such as roughness, surface energy, surface charge, hydrophilicity, biocompatibility, and functionality. Based on these characteristics, the modification methods can be divided into two groups: (i) physical modification (polishing and grinding, thermal treatment, solvent post‐treatment, blending, and coating) and (ii) chemical modification (chemical procedures, plasma treatment, ultraviolet induced grafting, ozone treatment, high energy radiation, and enzymatic treatment). Although each method has its own advantages and limitations, interesting results can be obtained for the modified membranes in the form of improved properties. The modified membranes open the door to further development of membrane technology." @default.
