- W1593084913 abstract "Most children can receive dental treatment through non-pharmacologic behavior management. However, some may benefit from pharmacologic adjuncts, such as general anesthesia (GA). Delivering care safely under GA requires firm adherence to protocol and an appreciation for the strengths and limitations of individual surgical venues. While relatively atraumatic, a significant portion of children who undergo surgery have preoperative fear and anxiety. By considering child-specific conditions and interventions, it may be possible to limit adverse psychological effects of the surgical experience. The chapter discusses, in detail, the preoperative considerations including preoperative pain management, preoperative child anxiety, preoperative pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions to reduce anxiety, and preoperative dental and surgical plans. It also describes the perioperative considerations, intraoperative considerations and postoperative considerations on the use of GA." @default.
