- W1601801418 abstract "Search is vital to organizational adaptation. It refers to an organization's scanning behavior, its ability to seek, identify, and choose new strategic options. Search can be viewed as both a process and a capability that enables organizations to see, create, or react to environmental contingencies. The absence of effective search ensures that organizations may never see or react successfully to external stimuli with important implications for organizational performance. This paper examines the factors that affect search in organizations. Specifically, it analyzes the effects of strategic choice, environmental determinism, core competence, organizational performance, organizational learning, power, incentives and organizational structure on search. The paper then summarizes and synthesizes key findings and offers conclusions regarding decisions or actions that can improve the search capabilities of organizations." @default.
