- W1602110938 abstract "This chapter reviews the knowledge of the biochemical and physiological events involved in the wound-regulated synthesis and compartmentation of the proteinase inhibitor proteins in the central vacuole of tomato leaf cells. Informational molecules, that is, hormones, are released by wounding and are transported throughout the plants to leaf cells where the message is received. The proteinase inhibitor-inducing factor (PIIF) that induces the accumulation of proteinase inhibitor has been associated with an acidic oligosaccharide fraction, although other components associated with these fractions may be involved. The nature of the receptors for PIIF is unknown, and it is not know whether they are associated with the cell membrane or they are in the cytoplasm or nucleus. The inhibitory effect of dibutyryl cyclic adenosine 3’,5’-monophosphate (cAMP) and methylisobutylxanthine (MIX) on PIIF induction leads to suspect that cyclic nucleotides may have some involvement in regulating inhibitor accumulation. Successful transmission of the message results in the synthesis and compartmentation of inhibitors and in an increase in carboxypeptidase activity." @default.
