- W1603666302 abstract "The processes of urbanization affecting themodern world have seen the explosion of the cityand the transformation of compact and welldefined structures in agglomerations with aseamlessly expansion. This has sparked a numberof social and economic consequences that haveimpacted on the city, on the urbanized areas, andon the surroundings. The usage of the term“sprawl” to define the process of expansion ofthe human agglomerations dates back to eightyyears ago, about, and from that period countlessresearches were done on the argument, also if itis open the question about the future trends ofthe city; if it is clear that the expansive model isstill winning, it is equally necessary to identifynew models that can better interpret the needsfor a new attention to the territory and itsenvironment. For this purpose the paper exploresthe feasible use of the scenario analysis as toolfor defining the potential evolutionary paths ofthe city. Particular attention is placed on theconstruction of de-urbanization’s scenarios, namely the set of reorganization’s hypotheses ofurban structures focused on the compaction oftheir physical size and on the maximizing of thenumber of residents and users. The paper seeks to deepen the possibletrajectories of de-urbanization and of urban andterritorial reorganization stretched to reverse thediffusion and expansive processes at themetropolitan level. The paper initially defines thecharacters of the processes of urbanization, alsowith reference to some research’s models. Thesecond part investigates the use of scenarios forthe construction of evolutionary trends. The third, finally, examines the trends comparing theprocesses of urban growth and of deurbanization." @default.
