- W1604433800 abstract "The reimplantation of the hip is a delicate intervention that can be resolved with relative ease by an expert surgeon. Yet, it may represent a true challenge under some circumstances. The problems that may be encountered are related to the characteristics of the subject needing surgery, to the type of implantation, as well as to the surgical technique. The complications arising during this intervention are more serious, both in a quantitative and a qualitative sense, when compared to the complications encountered with a primary prosthesis. Dislocation and instability of the implant represent the most frequently encountered complications. In these cases, the patient and the surgeon have to face additional and more complex interventions. To avoid these complications, or to reduce their number, we need to recognise the primary causes and the type of subjects most prone to these type of problems. This is a very effective premise to implement a strategy of prevention based on rigorous surgical techniques utilizing prostheses that minimise the risk of dislocation. The dual mobility acetabular cup represents an implant which makes the dislocation more difficult and is very useful in cases with an elevated risk of such complications." @default.
