- W1604989345 abstract "The Nordic-Baltic bifurcation studies are a series of randomized multicenter studies by the Nordic-Baltic PCI Study Group evaluating stent techniques for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of coronary bifurcation lesions. PCI of bifurcation lesions is technically demanding and associated with poor outcome compared with PCI of simple lesions. The first three Nordic-Baltic bifurcation studies provided insight into the advantages and limitations of various stenting techniques using drug-eluting stents (DES). Comparisons of the simple provisional SB stenting technique versus two-stent techniques, crush versus culotte two-stent techniques, and final kissing balloon dilatation versus no final kissing balloon dilatation after stenting the main vessel only were performed. The aim of the study series was to assist operators in planning the optimal treatment for specific patient and lesion subsets. This stepwise identification of optimal stent techniques has evolved into a recently initiated study comparing PCI and coronary bypass grafting for unprotected left main coronary artery disease. This study promoted an expansion of the Nordic-Baltic PCI cooperation to include centers in the United Kingdom." @default.
