- W160757670 abstract "The vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) is responsible for holding gaze steady. The cervico-ocular reflex (COR) that depends on propioceptive afferents, from neck muscles to the vestibular nucleus, makes little contribution to the stabilization of gaze in humans. Many publications have confirmed that the COR, that is, eye movement responses to rotation of the trunk about the earth-fixed head, which is a reflex of lesser importance in human beings increases gain in the presence of a vestibular lesion. The aim of this chapter for studying COR in patients with peripheral (unilateral or bilateral) and central vestibular lesions is to validate the clinical usefulness of this test in terms of its sensibility and specificity and it lists some rationales behind this. The final diagnosis of some patients within the category of peripheral (right or left) and central syndromes were classified, based on neuro-otological examination that includes a complete questionnaire, the study of static stability and dynamic stability (dynamic perturbations of the VOR and gait), caloric test with EOG recording, positional, and rotatory testing in a swinging chair. The relationship between the final diagnoses and the results of the swinging test with fixed head (STFH) was evaluated using the test of independence, based on the X-square test, and it came out to be statistically significant. The study of the COR through STFH is a useful and clinically reliable test that is likely to improve the knowledge of the interesting relationship between VOR and COR." @default.
