- W1609401780 abstract "This chapter describes the origin of the current in steady-state voltammetry, chronoamperometry, cyclic voltammetry, and square-wave voltammetry. The employment of these techniques in the study of redox reactions provides very useful applications. This is a dynamic electrochemical technique that can be used to study electron transfer reactions with solid electrodes. A voltammogram is the electrical current response that is caused by an applied excitation potential. With the introduction of modern electronics, inexpensive computers, and new materials there is a resurgence of voltammetric techniques in various branches of science as evident in hundreds of new publications. Voltammetry can be performed with a nano-electrode for the detection of single molecular events; similar electrodes can be used to monitor the activity of neurotransmitters in a single living cell in a subnanoliter volume electrochemical cell, measurement of fast electron transfer kinetics, trace metal analysis, etc. There are hundreds of chemical and biochemical electroactive species that are amenable to the voltammetric detection system. The chapter shows selected applications in three categories encompassing analytical, environmental, and biomedical sensing applications. In biosensing, the p-PAP probe for immunoassay is used for clinical diagnostic testing. The redox active DNA tags could be potentially used for genotyping with significant clinical potential." @default.
