- W1609480744 abstract "This chapter focuses on the imaging recovery of neurological function. Imaging recovery of neurological function cannot be considered a trivial challenge for many reasons. The main one may be the fact that recovery corresponds to improvement of clinical function in patients and not necessarily to any changes in cerebral activation patterns, as they can be observed with modern neuroimaging techniques. Imaging recovery of function is difficult because of the technical limitations to performing technically valid longitudinal studies with tomographic techniques. It is not easy to repeat positron emission tomography studies because of regulations governing exposure to radiation; behavioral and technical limitations are unresolved when using functional magnetic resonance imaging. The only solution to these problems at present is to include a separate control group. It is likely that close links exist between recovery mechanisms and general mechanisms of learning. In some neurobiological models, representations are specified in terms of patterns of neuronal activity. These are determined genetically or by early learning and modulated or differentiated by use and activity. Individual neurons participate in various neuronal assembles with different representations and functions." @default.
